DE & Cartridge Filter Cleaning

Picture
If you have a pool in your home, you and your loved ones likely find solace in it during the warm months. You can even opt to invite your friends to enjoy each other’s company by the pool as you eat and drink. But as much as backyard pools are crucial for our entertainment, it’s vital to keep them clean to safeguard everyone’s health and safety.

A pool cartridge filter plays a significant role in keeping the pool water clean. While performing this task, however, the cartridge filter is bound to accumulate dirt and debris, affecting its functionality. So it’s essential to clean the filter regularly to keep the pool clean. This post will share top catridge filter cleaning ideas you should consider today.

Use DIY Solutions or Cleaners
If you haven’t been cleaning your filter before, you must be wondering how you will handle the task. You can opt to use a homemade pool filter cartridge cleaner or get a pool filter cartridge cleaner. The former option entails filling a bucket with lukewarm water so the cartridge can be submerged easily. Add a cup of dishwasher detergent for each five water gallons and soak in the filter for several hours. Remove and rinse it using a hose. The same procedure can be used to clean the pool filter with vinegar.

If you want to avoid cleaning pool filter with dish soap, you will need to buy a cleaner and mix it up. Trisodium phosphate, for instance, is suitable for this task. Mix a cup of the product with warm water (five gallons for a cup of the cleaner). Fill the container with the solution in that ratio and submerge the filter for several hours. Remove and rinse with clean water from a hose.
Also, you may learn how to clean pool filter cartridges with muriatic acid. Just rinse the pool filter with a hose and place it in a large bucket that contains water and muriatic acid solution (1 part acid to 20 parts water). Let it soak until the bubbling stops, then remove the filter from the solution. Rinse with a garden hose and reinstall.

Get a Cleaning Tool
Some pool owners opt to use a garden hose to clean filters, but this often doesn’t offer quality results. If you don’t want to use the solutions, you can get a pool filter cartridge cleaner tool instead. Once attached to the hose, the water will be directed into the tiny holes, cleaning the filter properly. But, don’t use too much water pressure since that can damage your fibers.
Another option for those who prefer tools over solutions is the blaster automatic filter cartridge cleaner. The device is designed to rotate the tool and deliver water sprays throughout the cartridge, so dirt and debris can fall off easily. The automated filter cleaning tools can get the job done in minutes hence saving time.
What About Bleach?
If you use bleach to remove stains, you might be tempted to soak the cartridge in bleach. This isn’t recommended because bleach damages the filter fibers, hence shortening its lifespan. It’s better to use vinegar or the solutions manufacturers recommend instead of cleaning cartridges with bleach.
